DELEGATES from UKIP are descending on Scarborough today, with the party’s annual spring conference set to take place tomorrow.
Although officially a one-day event, a black tie dinner is being held at the Spa tonight as the proceedings get underway.
Speakers tomorrow will include Whitby fisherman Richard Brewer and party leader Nigel Farage.
Yorkshire MEP Godfrey Bloom said yesterday that the spring conference had become the most successful in the party’s history before it has even begun.
“We’ve got over 220 people for the dinner, it’s completely full,” he said.
“I’m really looking to it with it being my home county. I’ve been trying to remember the last time we came to Scarborough.
“It’s a wonderful town and we always have a lovely time.
“I’ll have to say a few words at the conference - I’m a politician, I can’t help myself.”
Mr Bloom added that he hopes the conference will boost business for traders in Scarborough.
“I know a lot of people are making a weekend of it,” he said. “I’m sure that those who have never been before will be wonderfully impressed.”
UKIP have campaigned against fishing quotas and argue that rules on fisheries policy should be decided by Westminster rather than Brussels.
Local fisherman Mr Brewer is set to address the conference just hours after he returns from sea in the early hours of tomorrow morning.
