Yorkshire Ambulance Service has told The Scarborough News that the driver of the bus that crashed this evening in Scalby Road is ‘unharmed’.

It has now emerged that three students were on the bus at the time of the crash but had left the scene before the police arrived.

An officer at North Yorkshire Police’s control room said: “We can confirm that there were three students on the bus, but they all left before officers arrived.

“They were uninjured and required no treatment.”

The ambulance service said the driver ‘was treated at the scene but did not require hospital treatment’.

One lane is still closed after the empty coach crash into a tree opposite Lady Edith’s Drive.
