The game was evenly-contested until a goalkeeping mistake on 20 minutes let in Valley striker Adam Hartmann to score from close range.

After that the game opened up a little and Angel pressured for the equaliser which they got just before half-time after a lapse in concentration from the Valley defence left Angel's Robbie Scarborough free to score a header from a fine cross by new signing Jake Moore.

Valley burst out of the blocks in the second half and after a skilful drive down the left wing Ross Campbell fizzed the ball across for Hartmann to net his second at the back post.

The second half was very open, with chances at either end.

Angel had the ideal chance to get back in the game when they were awarded an 70th-minute penalty, but Kurtis Williamson's spot-kick, and the rebound, were both superbly saved by keeper Stefan Campbell and despite a late spell of pressure Valley held on for a crucial win.

Man of the match for Valley was left-wing-back Champ Thongpia for his excellent defensive work and all round play, while Moore stood out among a below-par Angel line-up,

Radio Scarborough earned a 5-3 win at Castle Tavern.

Tavern opened the scoring early on but Ryan Hunter's header from a Dane Robinson cross levelled the scores on the 20-minute mark, then Robinson slotted a shot past the Tavern keeper to put the away side in front at half-time.

The home side, who were missing several key players, equalised after the interval, but Robinson then put Radio Scarborough 3-2 ahead, a lead further extended by a Dan Bateson effort.

Jordan Padgham struck their fifth before Tavern added another late on.

Tom Fennell scored twice for the home side, with Dave Gaddass also on target.

Michael Webster was man of the match for the victors, while Fennell and Jamie Jordan impressed for Tavern.
