Video: Colourful parades bring Scarborough coast to life

Crowds flocked to Scarborough over the weekend to kick-start festival season.

Coastival included more than 100 events, concerts, performances and attractions – the majority of them free – which took place throughout Scarborough from Friday through to Sunday.

From parades to art installations to live music, the festival explored and celebrated the coast, its landscapes, people and stories.

Among the different parades was the Voyage of Leviathan procession which featured a host of giant puppets and characters from the show in an explosion of music and colour, the story was told against the dramatic backdrop of the North Sea at South Bay.

The event began on Friday with the Polar Quest parade which ran from West Pier to the Spa.

Live music from saxophonist Snake Davis, rock band Cast and Asian Dub Foundation were among those performing across the weekend.

Four new art commissions were added to Coastival this year including Wet Sounds Scarborough, The Prison Project, A Light to Guide and The Many Faces of Scarborough.
