Voice Your Choice on worthy projects

COMMUNITY groups and organisations in Scarborough are invited to apply for a grant of up to £2,000 to deliver environmental projects in their area.

Scarborough Council is working with the Urban Area Forum to jointly launch a third ‘Voice Your Choice’ funding programme.

The scheme, which is being funded by the Central Urban Area Committee, has allocated more than £19,000 to the cause.

‘Voice Your Choice’ is a unique way of allocating public funds, where local residents have the final say on which projects get the go-ahead.

The grant scheme is open to local community groups and organisations that are looking to deliver environmental projects for the benefit of residents in the urban area of Scarborough.

Eligible applications will be put forward to a public decision-making event which will be held in June where residents of the central urban area of Scarborough can vote for the projects of their choice.

Last December more than 300 local residents attended a public event at Scarborough Library to cast their votes for their favourite projects, where 16 out of the 20 projects on display were awarded funding.

For further information about the fund, or to request an application pack, contact the council’s neighbourhood support officers Kerry Lee on (01723) 232472 or Matthew Joseph on (01723) 383562.

The closing date for applications is Wednesday May 9.
