SCARBOROUGH is braced for an Easter gathering of thousands of scooterists for a national rally.
The rally was previously held in Scarborough in 2009 and 2007 and a number of events will take place at the Spa Complex.
And Scarborough Castle Coasters Scooter Club, in association with the Yorkshire Scooter Alliance, has organised several events throughout the Easter weekend at Vivaz in Huntriss Row.
Club treasurer Mandy Lorains said that they were expecting thousands of scooterists to head for the Yorkshire coast from across the country and even Europe. She said: “I can’t wait. The atmosphere is really good and everybody knows everyone else.”
The highlight of the weekend will be a mass rideout on Saturday, April 22, from Weaponess Car Park to the Newlands Pub. In previous years it was estimated that about 3,000 riders took part.
As well as a mass convoy of scooter riders there will also be a custom show and stalls.
Ms Lorains said that in the past the rideout had started at the Spa Complex but the new meeting place would be a better choice.
She said: “We were going to start it from the Spa but changed it because it might cause parking congestion. There will be holidaymakers going to the Spa but everyone going to the car park will be going for the rideout.”
Ms Lorains said that the image of scooterists had moved on since the dark days of the 1960s and 1980s and the recent events had been trouble free. She said: “There was no trouble at the last national event – we are older and wiser. Everyone is there for a good time.”
The rally will take place from Saturday, April 22, until Sunday, April 24, and the club has organised several events at Vivaz in Huntriss Row.
Several bands and DJs have been booked and styles of music will include Northern Soul, Motown, Ska, Reggae and Indie.
The Scarborough club was founded in 2004 and has held at least one rally every year since.
Last year the national rally was held in Whitby and members organised a rideout to the event from Scarborough.
