A war of words has broken out following Steve Mallory’s exit from Scarborough Athletic.
Mallory, a virtual ever-present last term, has hit out at boss Steve Kittrick after an alleged bust-up at pre-season training.
The ex-Harrogate Town man took offence to how he was spoken to when he was asked to sign his forms.
Mallory said: “I had an offer from Shaw Lane and Farsley, but I definitely wanted to sign for Scarborough because I love the club.
“I tried to go to negotiate with the manager and he told me that if I wanted to go then I should just **** off to Farsley.
“I was asked to stay and train after that, but my blood was boiling so I just couldn’t do it.
“I’m not being spoken to like that. I wanted to stay at the club because the fans are great, but after that I can’t.”
But a bemused Kittrick has poured cold water on these claims: “I met Steve with Chris Bolder at the Hallmark Hotel four weeks previous to pre-season starting and an improved deal was put on the table which Steve was happy with.
“At the same meeting Steve was told by myself that I would not be in a position to increase my offer due to the fact we had gone as far as the club’s wage structure allowed.
“He agreed with the terms and on a gentleman’s handshake I thought the deal was done and was looking forward to seeing him at pre-season training.”
“So when Steve approached me and tried to tell me what other teams had put on the table, I told him we have had this conversation regarding monies before, our offer was final as agreed but if you want to go elsewhere you can or stop, train and keep to your word.”
