Scarborough Council has voted to approve divisive plans to develop a multi-million pound waterpark in Scarborough.

However, there was only one vote in it, as councillors voted 23 to 22 in favour of Benchmark developing the park.

The cash-strapped authority voted to invest just under £10 million into the North Bay site, which is part of a £140 million seafront regeneration project.

Developer Roland Duce previously told The Scarborough News that if the council hadn’t approved the plans, it would be the “end of the dream”,

However, following the behind closed doors vote, Labour group leader Eric Broadbent said that his party opposed the plans and that the scheme was “riddled with risk”.
