Scarborough Town Hall has celebrated its first wedding vows renewal ceremony, signalling the start of a new venture.

The venue was granted a licence earlier this year to host civil ceremonies, meaning the building can now host weddings, vow renewals and naming ceremonies, which are licenced to take place both inside and outside.

The first ceremony, last month, saw Scarborough couple Mr & Mrs Thorpe renew their vows, choosing the venue in celebration of their tenth wedding anniversary.

The ceremony took place in the Council Chamber, where the couple were joined by 60 guests, while the Civic Parlour and Town Hall gardens were the location for the post ceremony reception.

Kerry Russett, Manager for Ceremonies at Scarborough Town Hall said:

“It was wonderful to host our first ever ceremony last month and see our special venue in the heart of Scarborough being central to Mr and Mrs Thorpe’s special day.

"We’ve had some great feedback to date, with people booking weddings and other ceremonies with us for 2019 commenting on how Scarborough Town Hall was exactly what they were looking for – a civil venue, different to a registry office or hotel and somewhere unique.

"We now look forward to hosting many more special occasions and helping to make many more dreams come true.”
