FAMILIES are invited to test their wits and face the heat to help raise funds towards a Mexican house build project.
The quiz and curry night takes place at Burniston Methodist Church on Friday, 7-9pm, and features bric-a-brac and toy stall, entertainment and prizes.
Everyone is welcome to attend and tickets are available from the village Post Office or on the door, costing £5 for adults and £2 for children.
Proceeds are going towards the project, which will see teenagers and adults from Burniston Methodist Church travel to a shanty town in the Tijuana district of Mexico next Easter to re-house a family.
Under supervision they will build a two-room house from scratch with a concrete floor, plastered walls and windows to replace the family’s makeshift dwelling.
Project leader Andrea Smith said: “The teenagers are all anticipating doing the building and the hardwork involved. The quiz night will be a fun, family evening; there’ll be a variety of questions for all ages.”
The group has already hosted a Mexican Evening, a bag pack at Morrisons and monthly carwashes in their bid to raise £18,000 which will pay for travelling costs and materials.
Most recently, a separate group of students climbed Ben Nevis in support of the cause, donating £650 to the pot.
