A WOMAN was airlifted to hospital after she lost control of her car on an embankment at Thornwick Bay.

Police contacted Humber Coastguard for assistance at 7.10am this morning (Wednesday July 13), after reports from a member of public who had seen a car with a woman inside going over the cliff at Thornwick Bay.

Bridlington cliff rescue team, the Flamborough lifeboat, and the Hull Sector Coastguard Manager attended to investigate.

They found that the car had not gone over cliff but down an embankment, and stopped at what the coastguard called a “safe place”, close to the sea.

Humberside Fire and Rescue used tools to cut the woman from the car, before being taken to Scarborough Hospital by the RAF helicopter from Leconfield.

The cliff rescue team searched the area nearby to see if anyone else was involved in the incident, but found nothing.
