Woman offers beds for evacuees

A kind Bridlington woman has offered her two spare bedrooms for any of those residents who have been evacuated from their homes.

Police have executed a warrant this morning (Thursday August 4) as part of a pre-planned operation on Oxford Street, Bridlington following reports of illegal chemicals being stored at the property.

As a consequence, residents from around 40 homes have been removed from their properties to allow the explosive ordnance disposal team to investigate.

Residents are currently gathered in The Spa Bridlington with uncertainty surrounding when they will return with police telling them it would be a "minimum of 24 hours" earlier today.

In response, Bridlington resident Maureen Brook, who lives in the New Pasture Lane area, has offered her two spare bedrooms for those who cannot return to their properties.

"I believe in difficult times such as this the community should stick together," said the 52-year-old.

"I have two spare double beds available and it would be ideal for families or anyone really. I have all the ammenities so I'd like to offer them out to anyone who wants to get in touch.

"We should rally round for our own and it is not their fault they are in this situation. Just to warn people though that I have a German shepherd dog."

A 54-year-old man was arrested and is assisting police with enquiries.
