Papa’s Fish and Chips is converting the former The Scarborough pub near Morrisons at Eastfield into a 450-seat chippy.

The family-run business restaurant in Hull currently holds the title of “the World’s Biggest Fish and Chip Shop” having taken the title from a Harry Ramsden’s in Bournemouth.

However, when the Scarborough restaurant opens in December it will have 30 more seats, meaning it will take over the title.

Deano Papas, one of the owners of the business, told The Scarborough News that they were very excited to open in the town.

He said: “We are very excited to be moving into Scarborough as we feel it is a real destination for people who love fish and chips. The fact it will be the biggest chip shop ever, with 450 seats, is big news for the town.We are taking the title from one of our own restaurants but it is worth it.

“We will be creating 80 new jobs, all of which will be for people living in Scarborough.

The pub was named the Hungry Horse by a young reader in a competition when it was re-launched many years ago.
