Destruction theory is for the birds

RE: ANOTHER tirade against birds of prey by A Rosbottom.

One bird of prey equals a loss of 1,000 small birds - where on earth do these figures come from?

I am 72 years old, have always been interested in wildlife and have seen no evidence of mass destruction by birds of prey – of course they kill smaller birds, that I would suggest is ‘nature’s way’. I would suggest that a dozen or so magpies ‘kill’ more songbirds than the mythical 1,000 Sparrow Hawks by their stealing of every egg they come across.
