Development has a soap-opera element

re: the Sands water feature.

Here we go again, yet more plans for the Sands are aired. This development will run as long as Coronation Street has run the way things are going. We started in 1995 as Zenith and we were told then that the development would be up and running within four years.

Seventeen years later and all we have are two blocks of private flats with shops underneath, council chalets refurbished and sold off and other facilities, the Open Air Theatre through another company was refurbished and has yet to be anything but a white elephant. The rest of the Sands is either existing car parks or desolate wasteland.

Burniston Barracks car park, to date we have had various plans proposed for the car park including the water park along with all the facilities that are included at the present indoor pool, which it would replace.

Kinderland, plans proposed for the area. The old miners hotel on Ryndle Crescent was to be sold and redeveloped on Kinderland along with 40 Holiday Homes comprising three bedroom mews houses and two bedroom apartments. Also with car parking and “woodland walks”. Indoor pool and car park to be demolished and replaced with a casino, fitness centre and a block of flats. Atlantis site to date has had proposals for a 6/8 screen multi-screen cinema, a casino and entertainment centre, a hotel of over 120 bedrooms with business meeting facilities and bars, cafes, restaurants and local shopping.

There were going to be escalators and lifts to the upper floors and it would have a multi-storey public car park nearby. We also had Legoland who were going to develop the site but pulled out.

Northstead Manor Drive/Burniston Road car park, we have had proposed amongst other things, a multi-story 460 car park and 35, two bedroomed holiday apartments.

Mr Marvels site, continually proposed for holiday homes.

Each time a new proposal surfaces we are told as we are yet again when it will be up and running. This time the water park could be completed by late summer 2013. Who is kidding who?

There seems to be a lot of rhetoric but little happening.
