Elections: What about the other 1,061?

The comments by Cllr Derek Bastiman (Scarborough News, May 29) contain elements of euphoria and preening not quite matched by a closer look at the returning officer’s ballot.

In the local election of 2011 the combined Conservative vote gave an aggregate of 1,693. The present result gives the support of 632. What happened to the remaining 1,061? Did they stay at home, disgruntled with the broken promises of David, or did they venture out and commit the unpardonable sin of sampling the latest brand of fruitcake called UKIP?
