I am trying to find out more about the Elgie family, in particular Joseph Henry Elgie.
He was Henry Oliver’s father and was a writer, covering both astronomy and the weather.
I am writing a book based on one of Joseph Henry Elgie’s books on the night sky, and this is due for publication at some point later this year.
Anyone who knew either Henry Oliver or his wife Kathleen may have heard them mention him.
Also, Henry Oliver’s brother Rupert seems to have disappeared just after the war - maybe he was mentioned too?
Henry Oliver Elgie of East Ayton died, aged 81, on May 25, 1980. His widow Kathleen Elgie, of Holly Court, Filey Road, Scarborough, died, aged 80, on March 6, 1984. Both were cremated at Woodland Crematorium.
Henry Oliver Elgie had a brother called Rupert Elgie. Their father was Joseph Henry Elgie, a writer and journalist, who died in the 1930s in the Bradford area.
Henry Oliver had a daughter from a previous marriage. Her name was Patricia Mary Elgie and she may have emigrated to the United States of America with her mother, Henry Oliver’s first wife, Doris Elgie.
If any of your readers knows anything at all about the family I’d love to hear from them.
I can be contacted on (01274) 638792, firstname.lastname@example.org or at 32 Myers Avenue, Bradford, West Riding of Yorkshire BD2 4ET.
