Forests for everyone

RE: PROPOSED forest sell-off.

I think it is outrageous that the Government is proposing to dispose of publicly owned forest to private organisations and possibly foreign companies.

Wykeham Forest is one of the forests included in the sell-off. Wykeham Forest is the home to a range of forest mammals including roe deer, hedgehogs, foxes and badgers and many different species of birds.

Not all current public access to sold-off forests will be protected.

The forests are a national treasure and should not be in private hands. They should be for everyone to enjoy, used for conservation and not for private gain. It is ironic that 2011 is United Nations International Year of Forests.

If I were a parish, borough or county councillor I would be starting a campaign within the councils to oppose the sell-off. Lots of leading figures oppose the sell-off including Dr Rowan Williams, Annie Lennox and Sir Ranulph Fiennes.
