IN REFERENCE to the article on the Food Standards Agency and council report in Thursday’s evening paper, 7 April 2011, I would like to clarify that we are committed to ensuring that our food safety is of the highest standard.
In order to address issues highlighted by the council’s routine inspection, major refurbishment work will commence in our kitchen at Scarborough Hospital on Monday 11 April to undertake repairs to the floor and skirting boards.
As a hospital, we are open 365 days a year. Our catering team produce some 1,000 meals a day such refurbishment work has had to be carefully planned over a period of time. To complete the repairs all the major cooking equipment will have to be removed from the kitchen while the work is undertaken, plans have been made to complete the work in three stages.
A temporary cooking area will be enabled so that meals provided to patients will not be affected. However, there will be some changes to the patient menus due to the limited cooking equipment available.
We have a team of dedicated and professional catering staff here at Scarborough Hospital and our NHS Patient Environment Action Team inspections and patient feedback continue to demonstrate that our catering services provide good quality, safe and nutritious food.
