Letter: 8,000 shoeboxes sent to needy children

This year’s Operation Christmas Child shoebox collection has now been completed and more than 8,000 Christmas shoeboxes processed in the Scarborough warehouse have been sent to needy children in Romania.

Two thousand shoeboxes were collected in Hull and 6,000 were given by generous people in Scarborough, Whitby, Ryedale, Filey, Driffield and Bridlington.

The appeal was supported by so many different people, older and young. Shoeboxes were filled by schools, youth groups, churches, nurseries, workplaces and by many individuals who left their shoeboxes at various drop off points.

We cannot thank enough all the many people who helped in different ways. There are too many to mention but you know who you are.

Most of all, everyone’s efforts contributed to this amazing total of 8,000 needy children receiving a shoebox filled with small gifts this Christmas. For many of these children this will be the only Christmas present they will receive, but this simple gift will help them to understand that there is love and hope in the world. With heartfelt thanks.
