Letter: McCain 10k run - Event was a real triumph

May I, through your columns, congratulate all those involved in the McCain Yorkshire Coast 10k run in Scarborough earlier this month, in particular Chris and Julie Clayton from Scarborough Athletic Club, who staged this fantastic event.

On behalf of all of those who took part in and watched the 10k run and the two fun runs, the club is to be congratulated for an excellent piece of organisation. With almost 2,000 people taking part, ensuring that the event ran to schedule was no mean feat.

The club is voluntary and all those who gave up their time over many months leading up to and including Sunday – from organising registration and sending out the runner packs, to running the event at the Spa and acting as enthusiastic marshals along the route – deserve our hearty thanks. The event was a credit to them and to Scarborough. On a beautiful autumn morning, the event showcased Scarborough at its best and doubtless brought much-needed business into the town. All in all, it was a great event, thoroughly enjoyed by participants and spectators alike.
