Re proposals to start fracking in the North and East Yorkshire region.
Fracking should be totally banned in this country as accounts of fracking in other countries have proved to be very harmful to both health and the land itself. The only benefit is financial for the companies involved and you can guarantee that the bosses do not live within the fracking area.
Many of us will have received a leaflet giving details of the proposed fracking and the only thing I would query in it was a statement that “The UK currently exports nearly 30 per cent of its gas products. Also, despite what politicians would have you believe, we do not rely on Russia for our gas supply; 97 per cent of our imported gas comes from Norway (57.4 per cent), Qatar (24.4 per cent) and Holland (15.1 per cent) - but Russia.”
Only a few years ago a Russian friend of mine, now deceased, told me that they had just completed building a new gas terminal near St Petersburg which would pump gas via the Baltic Sea into Holland and thence into England.
I cannot believe that the Russians would go to all that expense and then just discontinue sending us the gas.
Perhaps some genuine expert on this subject can explain the present situation?
