Lions Club: Looking ahead to events for the anniversary

Filey Lions Club would like to thank all the people who have donated to their recent Santa float visits in Filey and the surrounding areas, as well as donations given at Morrison’s supermarket on Saturday December 21 and Monday December 23.

These donations are much appreciated as are the public’s support at our other main fundraising events throughout the year such as our Great Ball Race, Donkey Derby, 10Km race and our community bonfire and fireworks event.

The money we receive help us to support local needy people, talented youngsters, community groups and clubs, help provide the over 85s Christmas lunch, help for local schools and many, many other local causes (too many to mention here) as well as helping national and international appeals such as Water Aid and the Philippines disaster (and many more). Altogether in the past year the club has donated well over £35,000 – the vast majority of this to local causes - and this would be impossible without your help and generosity. All Lions money raised, donated or collected goes to charitable causes as all administration costs of running the club are paid for by the club members themselves.

In 2014 (from June) our club celebrates its 50th anniversary and there will be many events held in our area such as free garden parties to help celebrate this great year for the club and we hope people will come along and support these events – further details of such events will be advertised in the next few months.

Finally, may I once again on behalf of the club thank you all for your continued support and to say that Filey Lions Club hopes you all had a really wonderful Christmas and to wish you all a Very Happy and Prosperous New Year.
