Marathon was a big hit

On behalf of South Cliff Methodist Church, I wish to thank everyone who helped, supported and sponsored our recent ‘Table Tennis Marathon’ which, I am delighted to announce, raised a grand total of £2,036.66 for Cancer Research UK.

The idea originally came from South Cliff’s Thursday Friends Group table tennis players before eventually developing into a challenge ‘match’ between South Cliff and Westborough Methodist Church’s.

As the combined ages of the 20 veteran players totalled more than 1,000 years we agreed on a £1,000-plus target.

To actually double that goal is a wonderful achievement and I still cannot believe the sheer enthusiasm, willingness and generosity this idea produced. At the end of a 12 hour long session, South Cliff who won narrowly by just 40 points received a trophy kindly donated by Scarborough Friends of Cancer Research UK.

But what mattered most to all the players was that the main winners should be Cancer Research UK. And it now looks like becoming an annual event.

May we also say a big thank-you to local supermarkets Tesco and Sainsbury who supported us with catering and raffle prizes.
