Wednesday March 4 was a day of great meaning but also fun for me whilst collecting for Marie Curie Cancer Care’s daffodil appeal. People were so generous with their donations and my collector’s box was soon feeling quite heavy.
This leads me to say a personal thank you, on behalf of Marie Curie, to everyone for their humour and kindness. So many of the public I spoke to had experienced Marie Curie Cancer Care for someone they loved or knew and gave very willingly.
Standing in a draughty reception area at Sainsbury’s in Scarborough with a sunny day outside was made so much purposeful. My daffodil hat caused a lot of comment with smaller children hardly believing a daffodil could grow out of my head, and another gentleman suggesting I wore the hat in a more ‘raunchy’ manner! Quite difficult with a huge daffodil!
To follow on from this, I would like to say a personal thank you to the very kind lady who kindly placed a tube of Werther’s butter candies into my hand noticing I’d had a coughing fit.
Thank you to everyone for their generosity and I urge anyone with a few spare hours to contact Marie Curie as they will be glad to hear from you to join as collectors – it really will make a huge difference to someone’s life.
