RE The Wizard of Oz at the YMCA.
What a brilliant production this turned out to be. The costumes, orchestra, singing, staging, lights, choreography - everything was excellent. The scene in Munchkinland was a feast for the senses - all colour and music and so well done. The producers must feel proud of their achievement. It would be churlish to pick any one person as special because everyone gave their all. The lead parts all did a fantastic job of maintaining their own characters and pace despite everything going on around them.
The whole thing was an absolute delight and if you’re feeling a bit low or depressed you must get yourself off to see this show - there is still time. I think our YMCA is the only company that can get away without a sight of Toto at all!
Why do I always feel myself filling up at finale time? I think it’s because those young people never let me down. It’s wonderful to see all their smiling faces and all the work they put in. The youngsters today are brilliant and whether it’s the YMCA, Scouts and Cubs, Guides and Brownies, Rainbows, swimming, football, cricket, athletics or even skate boarding, they all put their heart and soul into everything. None of this would be possible without selfless adult volunteers who give up their precious time to encourage them and steer them on their way.
They are always there in the background passing on their knowledge and expertise, and most of all have time for them.
Congratulations to you all. You all do a wonderful thing and the rest of us owe you a lot.
