RSPCA did not carry out home visit

RE: THE article “Family happy as pet returns” (Evening News, March 15).

We would like to point out that we do not do home visits on behalf of breeders.

If someone has said that they have either done a home visit or had one done we would very much like to know the details, because if someone is falsely representing us we want to know about it.

We know nothing about this dog and we have asked both the Middlesbrough branch and Great Ayton, and they do not know the dog either to the best of their knowledge.

We only do home visits for animals in our care – be it in Scarborough or any other branch.

Over the past two years we have had to deal with a massive increase in the number of unwanted and stray animals that are often in need of veterinary care, which we deal with to the best of our abilities.

One positive message that came out of the article was that the dog was microchipped but for some reason the photo merited being taken outside a certain pet shop, providing them with free advertising.

We often hold events that provide free microchips in an effort to promote responsible pet ownership, but we didn’t get invited to be photographed.
