Spa is ‘not fit for purpose’

DIDN’T the borough council only recently announce that they were putting out to tender the management of the Spa?

Now Cllr Jeffels announces that with the council’s “theatrical contacts” it was confident that, along with the management of the Open Air Theatre’s Apollo, a full season of concerts would be achieved for 2012. This begs the question why, if they have so many “theatrical contacts”, they can’t build a summer season for the Spa theatre themselves but prefer the management to be in other hands?

I can’t see theatre management bigwigs queuing up in St Nicholas Street waving wads of money begging to contract the Spa. The Spa “theatre” is not “fit for purpose”.

It’s a terrible prospect but could each bay of Scarborough be looking forward to its own white elephant?
