Stores consultation timeframe

OUR council is running another public consultation on the Tesco and Sainsbury’s plans. The problem is we are still waiting on two key reports: the North Yorkshire County Council highways report and the new retail assessment.

It is hoped that once these are actually in and made public, the council will advertise the fact and start the promised three-week consultion process from that date only.

We are also told by planning that the existing retail assessment is outdated.

This was completed in 2007 and until 2016. The real problem is that with this retail assessment, both stores could not get the permission as this would take us over the amount of retail floorspace allowed. Is not the real reason to try and get the available floor space increased via a new retail assessment?
