RE: TESCO store: I hope the people of Scarborough are prepared for the loss of their town centre as we know it because if we think of all the shops that have closed in the last few years, we the people have to realise they have been the tip of the iceberg.
Be prepared to lose Waterstones, WH Smith, Boots, Superdrug, HMV, Jessops, to name a few, as Tesco stores now sell all the goods available in these shops. They also sell large electrical items and clothes so that’s goodbye Dixons and possibly Walkers and let’s not forget Bon Marche, Dash and Mountain Warehouse/Millets.
They sell greetings cards, stationery, perfume, make-up, see you later Clinton Cards and Rymans, possibly the perfume/makeup counter in Debenhams! They sell bedding, towels, pots, pans and all kitchen ware, well, need I say more.
The character of our lovely town will be gone forever, we will of course have Poundland, Poundstretcher, but are these shops enough to sustain and attract future visitors/investors to the town? I beg the council to please think again, let Scarborough be the first town in the country to stand up to these massive money making machines and shout a resounding no to the takeover.
We already have a Tesco, and Aldi and Sainsbury’s, we do not need another supermarket.
