Theatre: Fundraise for the Futurist!

It will be a very sad day if we lose the Futurist. Lots of residents and visitors can cast their minds back, remembering over the years the shows, groups and artists who have appeared on stage there. What a lot of pleasure they gave and what happy memories we have.

When the Odeon cinema closed and the Stephen Joseph Theatre took over, having had two previous venues, the library and Westwood fundraising took place I believe.

Three very large plaques are in place at the theatre entrance for all to see listing the different companies, businesses, groups and individuals from Scarborough and area, also one or two Yorkshire and nationals who generously contributed and donated and were involved (147 I counted!).

Of course over the years some are no longer around. However, newcomers have taken this place.

Is it possible to raise funds to keep this grand old building. To give the present and future generations a central location where they can continue to enjoy the various talents on display in the shows, individuals and groups performing.

I am sure they would continue to receive a warm welcome.

So come on Scarborough! Who is available to organise, help and volunteer?

Who is going to set the ball rolling with a contribution or donation?
