Wedding dress display thanks

COULD I please thank, through your pages, all those people who helped us to stage our wedding dress exhibition in St Hilda’s Church, Sherburn, over the weekend of the Royal Wedding.

In total, 66 dresses were offered for display by local people, over 400 photographs of weddings through the ages were loaned for copying, shops and institutions willingly displayed our posters and roadside signs. Many volunteers from our Benefice villages of Thorpe Bassett, Rillington, Scampston, Wintringham, Yedingham, Knapton, East and West Heslerton joined those from Sherburn in organising and publicising the event.

On the two days of the exhibition these same people helped feed and steward the 1,000-plus visitors. More than £1,800 was raised which will be used to produce guides and leaflets for August 13 when we will have our Benefice Open Day and all nine of our churches will be welcoming visitors.

Thank you one and all.
