YMCA offers its thanks for walk support

MAY I express my gratitude, and that of everyone associated with the Scarborough YMCA, to Alan Bruce and his hardworking colleagues for their fantastic support this year through the Scalby Walk.

It is great that despite the poor weather at the start, the walk was attended by even higher numbers than last year, and having completed it with my family, I can attest to it very well organised as well as really enjoyable.

The YMCA plays a large part in the town’s work with young people, yet receives no central government funding (and has not done for over 10 years), nor any financial help from YMCA England.

Support like that given through the Scalby Walk, as well as individual donations, are so important to enabling us to continue our work providing opportunities for young people to develop their confidence, nurture their talent and become responsible adults.

I would like to mention that in addition to his involvement with the Scalby Walk, Alan Bruce is a long-standing supporter of the Scarborough YMCA - as chairman of the Friends of Scarborough YMCA, as a volunteer of our theatre and as a board member.

We are enormously grateful to him for his commitment and dedication to the young people of the town.
