“If there is one thing I have learned from Covid-19, it has been the need for clear, honest and authentic verbal communication,” said Duncan Lewis, author of a new book, Speak Out! How to Make an Emotional Connection in Communication.

Mr Lewis, 62, who lives in the Valley area of Scarborough, added: “For as long as I can remember, I have been fascinated by the myriad of ways in which people communicate with each other.

"While academia was never my strongest point growing up, my thirst for knowledge in this subject reached a peak in 2010.

“As a mature student, I embarked on an exciting – if daunting – voyage of discovery by undertaking a Master’s Degree in Leadership and Management at York St John University. Over a three-year period, I became engrossed by leadership styles and, specifically, how different leaders communicate their verbal messages.”

The requirement for genuine, verbal communication is the subject explored in his first book.

He will donate a percentage of sales to The Prince’s Trust, for which he has mentored and trained young people for 16 years, with public speaking and passing on personal development knowledge.

His company, Eaglei, has been providing communication, presentation and public speaking skills coaching for seven years.

Mr Lewis added: “The book is essentially about my approach and methodology to what I do.

"My company Eaglei works in business and education with individuals, groups and teams to develop skills in communication, presentation and body language.”

With wide experience in the private, public and third sectors, he works all around the UK, but predominantly with businesses and in education across Yorkshire.

Clare Crabb, Director of the North of England for The Prince’s Trust, said: “We are deeply grateful that Duncan continues to support us with his new book, Speak Out! How to Make an Emotional Connection in Communication.

"Speak Out! encapsulates much of the communication expertise that Duncan has generously shared with our Prince’s Trust young people and will enable more people to find the confidence to communicate their stories effectively’.
