Scarborough man jailed for vicious Christmas Day hammer attack

A Scarborough man who repeatedly hit his victim in the head with a hammer on Christmas Day has been jailed.

Grant Farquhar left his victim with life-changing injuries after an attack in a property on North Marine Road, on Christmas Day, 2018.

The victim managed to flee outside and was able to flag down a North Yorkshire Police officer who was on patrol nearby.

He had three large cuts to his head and was covered in blood.

Further officers arrived at the scene, and Farquhar was located and arrested a short distance away.

Farquhar, 47, of North Marine Road, Scarborough, was charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

He pleaded guilty and was sentenced to six years and eight months in prison at York Crown Court on Monday, May 10.

DC Philip Giblin, of North Yorkshire Police, said: “This was a violent, unprovoked attacked on Christmas Day which left the victim with very serious injuries.

“The victim has shown tremendous courage throughout the case and was committed to seeking justice for the assault.

“This case involved a shocking level of violence, and it is right that Farquhar has received a significant custodial sentence as a result.”
