ATHLETICS: Rising stars shine for Scarborough AC at York meeting

A record of 32 junior athletes competed in the final round of the Youth Development League Division Northern East, which was held at the University of York track.

At the end of a top-class meeting, which include big Northern clubs with dedicated track and field facilities, the Scarborough club finished in third place and was fourth overall for the season, which ensured their place in Division One for the 2017 season.

The 10 under-13 girls at the meeting made a significant contribution to the overall team score, and included the highest overall scorer of the 32 club members competing at the meeting.

Together, they also achieved a total of 12 personal best performances.

Jessica Raw was the top scorer after finishing as the runner up in three top class A events, namely the 70 metres hurdles, long jump and high jump, only after a count back. Bests were achieved in both jump events.

Matilda Tomlinson was the second highest scorer in the group and came close to a win with runner-up placings in the A 800 metres and the high jump, and achieved bests in both events.

Livvy Bourne was a top scorer after winning the B long jump and a fifth in the A 1500 metres with best.

Kate Mullaney was a winner after a best in the B 70 metres hurdles, and she equalled her best when finishing fourth in the B 75 metres.

Emma Willis was a top scorer in her two A field events with fourth in both the javelin and shot.

Two of the youngest juniors at the meeting were 10- year-olds Lucy Keen, who made a club and league debut, and Laura Dove, who competed for the second time in the league.

Lucy was fifth in the A 75 metres with a best and Laura was second in the 1,200 metres with a best and fourth in a non-scoring 75 metres, equalling her previous best.

Amelia Wilson was third in the B javelin, fifth in the B 150 metres with a best, and second in a non-scoring 800 metres.

Ellie Raw was third in the B 800 metres with a best and the B shot.

Issy Nicholls competed in a top class A 1,200 metres race, which included two highly-ranked athletes, and achieved a best when finishing in third place.

The 10 under-15 girls achieved the highest average scores at the meeting, and together they had nine bests.

Isabel Louth was the top scorer after competing in three A events.

She was third long jump with a best, fourth in the 100 metres and fifth in the shot.

Joint second top scorers were Isabel Matique and Kate Tomlinson. Isabel won the A high jump and was fourth in the B 300 metres.

Kate was third in the B long jump and high jump with an equal best, and fourth in the A 75 metres hurdles.

Daisy Wills was next highest after bests and a runner-up placing in the A 800 metres and third B 200 metres.

Emily Carroll, Kate Robinson and Ebony Cooper were also top scorers.

Emily achieved bests and third places in both the A 200 metres and 800 metres.

Kate was third in both the A 300 metres and B 75 metres hurdles.

Ebony took on three B events and was third in both the javelin and 800 metres and fourth in the discus.

Jemma Casson was third in A 1500 metres and seventh with a best in the non-scoring 100 metres. Cerys Barf was fifth in both the A discus with a best and B shot.

Sophie Boddy was fourth in the A javelin with a best.

The group also achieved a win in 4 x 300 metres relay, with Tomlinson, Robinson, Cooper and Matique.

The eight under-15 boys achieved top scores especially in A grade events and together they had a total of 10 bests.

The top scorer was Christian Mummert who competed very successfully in three A events.

He was the runner-up in the 800 metres and long jump with a best, and was also third in the high jump with another best.

Scott Parker-Williams crowned his league debut season with next highest scorer and runner-up results in the A 200 metres and B 100 metres with a equal best. He was also third in the A 300 metres.

Next highest was the consistently top scorer Joe Matique who was second in all three of his events, namely A 100 metres and B long jump and high jump.

Alex Myers was a top scorer with a runner-up and best in the B shot and third in both the A discus and B javelin. Tom Mummert was also a high scorer when winning the B discus with a best and a third in the A 1500 metres with a best.

Tom MacDonald was the runner-up in the B discus and and third B 800 metres and had bests in both event.

Jacob Head was the runner-up in both the B 300 metres and A shot with a best. Tali Schumann-Saunders who moved up to the under-15s this season was fourth in the B 1500 metres and fifth in the A javelin with a best.

The four under-13 boys added a significant contribution to the overall team scores.

Top scorer was Duncan Barf, who competed in three A events, finishing third in the javelin and shot and fifth in the 1500 metres.

Next highest was Oliver Stapley who was fourth in the A 800 metres and fifth in both the A 100 metres and B long jump.

Alfie Willis was top scorer with third places in two of his B events, the 800 metres with a best and the high jump.

Jake Clough achieved notable bests in all his events. He was fifth in three A events, high jump, long jump and 200 metres plus a fifth in the B shot.
