Belt eyes up European and Asian Tour schools
Bridlington golfer Alex Belt has his eyes on making it on to the international stage in the next 12 months, thanks to the support of one of his most prominent sponsors.
It is a decade since Lloyd Dowson first gave Belt their backing, and they have celebrated the milestone by helping with his efforts to get to the European and Asian Tour Schools.
Belt believes that could be the gateway to the big time, having had a taste of golf at the highest level when he competed in the PGA Championships at Wentworth last year.
He said: “This is the 10th year David (Dowson) and his company have supported me.
“This year they are putting up some sponsorship to help towards my European Tour School and Asian Tour School expenses.
“These tour schools are a key component of gaining access to the world stage.
“This process starts in September and is over three separate stages with qualification needed in each.
“I’m very much looking forward to the challenge and hopefully this will open up the opportunity to access the European or Asian Tour.
“I can’t thank them enough for their loyal support alongside other local businesses.”
Vanessa Rowbottom, marketing manager for Lloyd Dowson, said: “We are delighted to sponsor Alex and to show our continued support for him.
“He has had a successful start to the season with some strong wins.
“The team at Lloyd Dowson wish him all the best for the coming months.”
Before he turns his attention to tour schools, Belt is involved in the The PGA in Yorkshire Championship today and tomorrow at the Mid Yorkshire Golf Club.
He then takes on Philip Darlison in the semi-finals of the Yorkshire Matchplay on Sunday, before final qualifying for The Open on Tuesday.
