Belt sees benefits of Cambodia trip

As well as working on his own game in Cambodia, Alex Belt is coaching staff and resort guests.

He is spending three months at the Angkor Golf Resort, which was designed by Nick Faldo and is classed as one of the top 1,000 courses in the world, despite only opening five years ago.

Belt, who went to St Augustine’s School in Scarborough and has prveiously been based at Snainton Golf Centre, is working on his technique, and has access to a five-star gym at the club.

“My game is coming along nicely and I’m excited to get the season going, but for the meantime I’m just working on one thing at a time and see where that takes me,” he said.

The trip to the Far East came about through his long-time friend David Baron, who is Bridlington born and bred but is head of golf operations at the resort.

Belt added: “I headed to Cambodia wanting to make a few changes in my technique and in the way my body works in my swing. I generally am playing tournaments in Spain this time of year but decided I needed a different approach to the start of my season.

“It is very difficult to practise efficiently during the English winter period. The driving range is a great way to work on the game but it’s not the same as playing on grass and bunkers that are not full of water.

“Putting, which is 50% of the game, is virtually impossible to work on.”
