“The weight was an issue,” admitted Rhodes.

“I’m not making any excuses, he won fair and square, but I am big at the weight and I struggled to do it this time.”

The Westway ABC-based boxer injured his right knee after his hard knockdown in the opening round, and admits he’s facing a spell out of the gym as a result.

“I could have injured the ligaments in my knee when he put me down in the first round,” added Rhodes Jnr.

“It will take a bit of time to get this right, but then I’ll have some decisions to make.

“Time will tell. There were mistakes made in the build up to this fight, not just with the weight, but I’ll learn from this and come back stronger.”

Over 120 fans from Scarborough made the trip to York and Rhodes Jnr admits he was delighted with his reception.

“I felt on top of the world after the ring walk and the reception I got when they announced my name,” said Rhodes Jnr.

“I always make time to thank everyone who supports me, but I have to reiterate that.

“They made the most noise of the night and it means a lot to me.
