Rhodes Jnr follows stablemate Shaun Ireland into the professional ring when he makes his debut at Barnsley Metrodome on Friday June 26.

This follows Ireland’s impressive points win against Joe Beeden at Doncaster Dome a couple of weeks ago.

Rhodes Jnr said: “It may sound cringey, but you only get one professional debut and I want to make sure mine is one to remember.

“I’m very excited to finally get in the ring next month, it’s been a long time coming.

“Watching Shaun’s debut a couple of weeks ago really gave me a good idea of what mine will be like too.”

Rhodes Jnr doesn’t have an opponent for his fight yet, as his promoter Dave Coldwell has been stuck in America following Jamie McDonnell’s win over Tomoki Kameda in Texas, but he is hoping to hear some news soon.

Rhodes Jnr added: “Dave has sent a few messages while over there, but he’s been delayed getting back so I imagine I’ll know who I am fighting soon.

“I don’t really mind though to be honest. He will have two arms and two legs and it will be up to me to beat him.”

The former Westway amateur is trained by his dad George Rhodes Snr and Al Edwards at their Eastfield gym, and the welterweight is currently working on adapting his style to suit the pro game.

“I just need to learn to be more patient in the ring now I am not an amateur,” added Rhodes Jnr.

“I have been working on picking my shots more in the gym, I was a bit like a machine gun in the amateurs, up on my toes and firing off shots.

“It will be different now though and I need to adjust”
