The final of the Greenwood Hire Derwent Valley Junior Cricket League under-13s KO Cup between Bridlington and Driffield, saw the latter win by a single run in a dramatic game at Wykeham CC on Wednesday night
Driffield openers Conner Robb (16) and Alex Drury (13) got them off to a steady start, but after they were both dismissed, the introduction of Bridlington bowler Louis Beckett (4-13), soon had Driffield in trouble as the middle order faltered. This continued as Sam Flowerdew (2-6) and Matthew Atkinson (2-5) cleaned up the Driffield tail as they finished on 55 all out.
In reply, Bridlington were soon in trouble as they lost both openers cheaply, but Harrison Male (12) and Callum Battams (10) gave them renewed hope as they rebuilt the Bridlington innings.
This ended as Driffield bowlers Alex Drury (2-2), Charlie Foster (3-6) and Tom Feather (2-5) steadily took wickets for the rest of the innings.
Eventually Bridlington required four runs to win off the final over with the last pair at the crease.
A couple of tight runs were scrambled but Drury had the final say, trapping the last batsman LBW to seal a win for Driffield.
The man of the match award, judged by umpires Stephen Day and Ian Thompson, was awarded to Driffield captain Robb for his batting and excellent wicketkeeping.
Driffield 55 all out (Conner Robb 16, Alex Drury 13, Loius Beckett 4-13, Sam Flowerdew 2-6, Matthew Atkinson 2-5) beat Bridlington 54 all out (Harrison Male 12, Callum Battams 10, Alex Drury 2-2, Charlie Foster 3-6, Tom Feather 2-5) by one run
