Flamborough CC have withdrawn from the Readers Scarborough Beckett League premier division just before the 2013 season commences.

They were due to travel to Cayton for their season opener on Saturday, but due to a lack of players the club have decided to withdraw their first team.

Thornton Dale 3rds, who play in division C of the Derwent Valley League, are also struggling to raise a side, have already withdrawn from their first game of the season and look likely to be unable to fulfil any of their first four games.

Sewerby 4ths and Forge Valley 4ths have also pulled out of their first games against Nawton Grange 2nds and Muston 2nds respectively.

Flamborough’s 2nd XI are due to host Lockton in division B of the Derwent Valley League after the Beckett League committee decided against moving the club’s second string up into the top flight.

Bernard Goulding, secretary of the Derwent Valley League, said: “It’s disappointing that a team have pulled out of the Beckett League so close to the season getting under way.

“We agreed that Flamborough’s second team could move up into the top flight, but that was rejected by the Beckett League so their second team will stay in the Derwent Valley League.”
