An unbroken 112-run fifth-wicket partnership between Oliver Stephenson and Andy Wardell paved the way for Flixton to secure an eight-run division A win against defending champions Staxton.

Flixton were in deep trouble on 28-4 until Stephenson, 67no, and Wardell, 50, steered them to a decent 140-4.

Rob Pinder was the only Staxton batsman to make any headway, scoring 44, in the face of tight bowling from Lee Elvidge, who claimed a hat-trick in his spell of 3-25, while Nick Zakrzewski also snapped up 3-16 as Staxton finished on 132-7.

Fifteen-year-old James Scott bagged 3-11 as Scalby eased to a 45-run triumph at Cloughton, while Phil Dickens hit an unbeaten 65 in Filey’s 26-run success against Cayton.

Oriel all-rounder Simon Saxton bagged a hat-trick in his team’s seven-wicket division C win at home to Cloughton B.

Saxton ended up with 3-3 as the visitors skittled Cloughton for 50, and Oriel swiftly knocked off the runs for the loss of just three wickets.

Jason Oakley and Dave Bell shared a stand of 132 as Snainton posted 177-4 in their game against Forge Valley B.

Oakley struck 65 and Bell hammered an unbeaten 77.

Eric Hall, 34, was the only Valley batsman to impress in reply as the Ayton side mustered 113-7.
