Forge Valley 4ths quit Derwent Valley League

Derwent Valley Cricket League division B side Forge Valley 4ths have been forced to resign from the league due to a lack of players.

League secretary Bernard Goulding said: “I received last night the resignation of Forge Valley CC’s 4th team from the Derwent Valley Cricket League (Division B). This was due to a lack of enough players for Forge Valley CC to run four teams, however they are very hopeful to be able to run three Saturday teams for the rest of the season.

“They have tried the league’s new player loan system , however there would have had to be more loaned players in their side than actual Forge Valley CC members (which would defeat the object of the loaned players system).”

This now means that there will be just nine teams in division B, who will now all have two blank Saturdays when due to play Forge Valley 4ths, making 16 fixtures now for each team.

Also the teams that were due to play Forge Valley 4ths in cup fixtures now receive a bye into the next round - these being as follows -

Murray Brown and Son Cup - Valley Bar Nomads now receive a bye in the preliminary round and now meet Muston 2nds at home in the 1st round. (to be played by June 5)

Home Guard Sunday Cup - Lockton CC now receive a bye in the 1st round and now meet Ravenscar 2nds at home in the 2nd round. (to be played by May 17)

Welford Cup - Sewerby 3rds now receive a bye in the preliminary round and now play Nawton Grange 2nds at home in the 1st round. (to be played by June 4)

Goulding concluded: “I am very hopeful that this year this will be the only resignation from the league and hope any teams short of a few players each week can benefit from the league’s players loan scheme and are able to put out full teams, along with the ability now to play non registered players (not signed on and registered with any other club) with immediate effect (and then sign them on within three days after playing such players).”
