Dales have quit division C of the league due to a lack of players in yet another hammer blow to the local cricket leagues following a spate of resignations in recent seasons.

The Derwent Valley League has been reduced down from three divisions to two and Dales’ resignation comes as yet another blow to Beckett League secretary Simon Dobson.

In the opening three weeks of the season, Dales have had to concede two matches and only were able to play their fixture on May 9 when their first team game was rained off.

Dobson said: “In these trying times for grassroots cricket this is a blow to the league, however, we must continue to look forward as an organisation and I trust we will all try to bounce back from this.

“There are many positives to our league, with the opening three weeks seeing some excellent cricket being played, along with some fine individual performances and this must be our focus.

“Unfortunately, this means teams in division C will now have two free weeks during the season.

“Matches that have already been played will be classed as void and any points gained by Seamer 2nds, Ebberston 2nds and Heslerton 2nds in those matches will be erased and the league table will be amended to suit in the coming days.

“Fylingdales 2nds had already conceded their match in the Cayley Cup, so this competition is unaffected.”
