Young cricketers from Gladstone Road were delighted to have secured sixth place in the Drax Cup’s North Yorkshire final at Dunnington Cricket Club, near York.

The team were among nine competing for the trophy and enjoyed a strong win against Chandlers Ridge School (Middlesbrough), scoring 272 to the Teessiders’ 200 in their pool matches, but losing out to Pannal (Harrogate) and York school Qur Lady Queen of Martyrs - who reached the final - meant the Road young guns finished third in their group.

Kildwick Primary, near Skipton, were the county champions and now play in the Drax Cup finals at Headingley on Tuesday, prior to the Yorkshire v Leicestershire match in the Friends Life t20.

The Drax Cup is the biggest cricket competition for under-nines in the country and this year attracted 440 schools from across Yorkshire.
