Harland and Simpson smash Scarborough to Cleethorpes win

Skipper Andrew Simpson and Darren Harland smashed an unbroken opening stand of 261 to guide Scarborough to victory against Cleethorpes.

Cleethorpes won the toss and elected to take first knock at North Marine Road, and they posted a competitive 259-5, Tom Precious removing the top three visiting batsmen to take figures of 3-76, while Samrat Sharma (1-60) and Chris Grey (1-41) also chipped in with a wicket apiece to restrict the visitors.

Tom Keast was Cleethorpes’ leading scorer as he hit 68 before Grey had him caught behind by young keeper Jonathan Read, while opener Inderjit Hayre made a neat 64.

Scarborough’s openers made light work of the visiting attack as Harland 16 fours on his way to 126 from just 122 balls, while Simpson smashed 15 fours and one maximum as he took 131 balls to make 125 to guide the home side a comfortable win after 41.5 overs.
