Pick shines as Scarborough crush Studley Royal

Pick scored an unbeaten 146 and former skipper Darren Harland 109 not out as the North Marine Road club eased past Royal’s 268-6 without losing a wicket.

After skipper Neil Elvidge won the toss and chose to bowl, Scarborough were subject to a tough 50 overs in the field before the tea break.

Studley’s innings was held together well by opener Dan Coad, who scored a controlled 59 alongside a high-quality 89 from Rob Mackle in a second-wicket partnership worth 138, as well as Steven Walmsley adding 42 to strengthen Royal’s position before the first innings ended on 268-6.

Centurion Pick also took 3-28 for Scarborough, with Kristian Wilkinson also in the wickets taking 2-47 himself, Ryan Gibson getting the other.

After the tea interval, the new-look Scarborough opening pair took over, bringing up the 100 partnership inside 16 overs, 200 in 34 and eventually knocking the total off by reaching 269-0 in the 41st over of the innings, capping a brilliant day for the batsmen at North Marine Road, with 540 runs in 90 overs.

The ever-present opener Harland scored an unbeaten 109 featuring 11 fours and two sixes alongside Pick’s 146 not out with 18 fours and two sixes for Scarborough against an attack featuring Yorkshire’s pace bowler Ben Coad.

This has turned out to be a 60-point Bank Holiday weekend for the side, taking them up from sixth in the league to fifth, 16 points from second-placed team Sheriff Hutton Bridge.

On Saturday Scarborough travel to Stamford Bridge in a game where Scarborough can rise as high as second in the league table.

Elvidge said: “James was definitely the man of the match for us, this was his highest-ever score and he also took three wickets.

“We have had a great weekend, and now head into the biggest game of the season away to Stamford Bridge on Saturday.”
