Great Habton batsman Robin Richardson smashed an explosive unbeaten 147 to help his side’s Derwent Valley League division A title chances with a 97-run win at home to Brompton 2nds on another Saturday ruined by the wet weather.

Richardson was assisted by an unbeaten 38 from Will Wright as the hosts declared on 201-3 after getting full batting points, and John Lumley’s 3-3 then helped dismiss Brompton for 104.

This win pulls Habton 13 points clear of former leaders Mulgrave, whose game at Sewerby 3rds was rained off, as was fourth-placed Oriel’s game at Muston.

Hospitals suffered a 22-run defeat at Forge Valley 3rds despite restricting the hosts to 96-9.

Tim Farrant’s 46 proved crucial for the hosts with Simon Norris taking 4-38.

In reply, Hospitals never really got going in the face of strong bowling from Chris Calvert (5-26) and Wesley Wharton (3-12) as they slipped to 74 all out.

The weather was very unkind to Whitby 3rds, who were within touching distance of a win at home to promotion hopefuls Fylingdales 2nds when rain stopped play.

John Beech struck a superb 69 but was offered little support as the visitors were dismissed for 133, Mark McCarthy taking 4-38.

McCarthy hit 29 to cap a fine all-round day, but despite 31 no from Mike Fawcett the elements called a halt to play with the hosts needing just 24 runs to win with seven wickets in hand and nine overs to spare.

Flixton 3rds remain top of divisionB after winning by 31 runs at home to Sherburn 2nds.

Kevin Samuels hit 33 as the hosts were skittled for just 107 runs, Dan Bean and Robin Worthy taking four wickets apiece for Sherburn.

Lee Jack’s unbeaten 25 was in vain as the visitors were dismissed for 76, the Flixton match-winner proving to be bowler Liam Lowery who took 6-19.

Lockton and Flamborough chalked up comfortable wins to keep up their respective chances of gaining promotion.

Filey 2nds moved into top spot in division C with a six-wicket success at home to Ravenscar 2nds.

Tricky bowling from veteran Kev Chapman (4-29) and seamer Kieron Grainger (3-24) saw the visitors slip to 98 all out after a promising start.

Jamie Cornish’s 37 then made sure of the win, despite 2-24 from teenage medium-pacer Luke Stokoe.

Rob Holt’s 7-17 helped Snainton earn an eight-wicket win at home to Ganton 2nds, continuing their steady progress up the table.

Scalby 3rds’ Abhishek Kumar hit 31 then took 4-17 as his side kept up their promotion challenge with a 57-run win at Thornton Dale 2nds.
