Rising stars in action at Bridlington Cricket Club
Bridlington Cricket Club first-team skipper John Major has been bowled over by the number of young cricketers who have attended the ECB All Stars and Dynamos courses at Dukes Park.
Major, who works for the Yorkshire Cricket Board as a Club & Community Development Manager for East Yorkshire, was delighted to see 120 youngsters at the club for the courses last week.
He said: “We had 120 juniors playing at the club last week and even more have signed up for this week.
“There are 80 players in the All Stars, which is for the younger players with the emphasis on the fun aspects of the sport and introducing them to the ideas of batting and bowling.
“There are 52 now signed up for the Dynamos which starts to focus more on the skills and the games with them being the older players.”
Major is keen to emphasise the importance of juniors for the future of his club.
He added: “Rather than just focus on getting new signings in every season the way to make the club stronger is to ensure the juniors are coming up through the ranks.
“These kind of courses are great at encouraging juniors to take up the sport.
“I am also hoping to have a few days of cricket courses lined up for the first week of the summer holidays and some more in the fifth or sixth week of the holidays.”
